Changing roles

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

Deadline: 17th April 2009

The purpose of the conference is to bring together architects, construction professionals, researchers and students to meet and discuss from a broad perspective how recent developments in building and construction influences and alters the roles of the participants in the building industry. Special attention will be given to the changing role of clients, managing specialists, architectural designers, engineers, consultants, and contractors. Worldwide initiatives to re-value construction can be seen nowadays. A lot of attention is given to new ICT approaches, procurement routes amongst others. Less attention has been given to the changing roles of the participants, and how this effects their professional and contractual position, tasks and responsibilities. New types of procurement, changing building regulations, developments in ICT the world wide strive for re-valuing construction. At the end all have one purpose delivering better buildings by means of better managing and organising the way we build them. Papers are invited on the themes: Integration and collaboration, New roles, New challenges, Supply chain integration, and Adaptable futures. These themes are for guidance and should be interpreted widely.

Archetime

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

Deadline: starting February 20th 2009

ArcheTime conference and art exhibition aims to foster critical discourse between artistic, academic and scientific thought on Time. We endeavor to examine and compare the various models of Time that have been suggested across disciplinary boundaries. We invite participants from these divergent disciplines to come together and share their visions of Time in the spirit of multi-disciplinary collaboration and the search for new perspectives.

UCS 2009

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

Deadline: 31st March, 2009

UCS 2009 will be co-located with RTCSA 2009 (IEEE International Conference on Embedded and Real-Time Computing Systems and Applications) at Beijing, China in August 2009.

UCS 2009 is an interdisciplinary field of study that includes pervasive, wireless, embedded, wearable and/or mobile technologies that bridge the gaps between the digital and physical worlds, practical applications that incorporate these technologies, infrastructures that effectively support them, human activities and experiences these technologies facilitate, and conceptual overviews that help us understand or challenge our understanding of the impact of these technologies. The aim of the symposium is to stimulate interactions between participants through them. UCS 2009 focuses on the emerging area of ubiquitous computing. This emergence is an outcome of the rapid evolution in smart appliances and devices, as well as tremendous advances in wireless networks and mobile computing. The symposium offers the opportunity for in-depth exploration of the most recent research and development findings in the field of ubiquitous computing.

ACADIA 2009

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

Deadline: 13th April, 2009

How architects, engineers, artists and designers are using hardware, software and middleware technologies to create a new tomorrow. No longer just drawn or built, our homes, offices, factories and cities are being increasingly programmed, filled with sensors and shaped by new parameters. These strategies and devices give us the ability to produce new types of spaces that actively respond to users and the natural environment, radically altering the ideas of ambience, site and context.
While those who carefully produce these new spaces – the architects, engineers, contractors, artists and designers – are busy understanding how buildings can adapt by changing form or operation, questions about the reasons that drive reform remain. What creative urges underlie this change and why should our environments undergo responsive transformations? Are deeper unidentified cultural forces at play?
The School of The Art Institute of Chicago, Department of Architecture, Interior Architecture and Designed Objects, is proud to host “reForm()” – the 2009 international conference of the Association of Computer Aided Design In Architecture (ACADIA) – a conference about tomorrow’s visionary architecture and the hardware, software and middleware systems that work to revolutionize our daily lives.
