How to blog using wp.

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Introduction

The blog is meant as a way for presenting your work in progress. It will be regularly reviewed by your design tutors, but it also serves as a platform for you to communicate your design concepts to eachother, as well as to the outside world.

Blog posts consist of text and images. All posts share a common layout. This layout includes a banner picture, a short project description and a text field where more thumbnail images can be added. Here is an example of how it may look like.

Images

The banner picture should be 450px width and 225px height preferably. But you can differentiate in height.

Other pictures can be any size.

When saving please use the save for Web & Devices option.

Then choose jpg, and quality on about 50%.

Flickr

As we are not hosting any of your pictures, you need upload them to a webhost. We suggest you use flickr for this.

Surf to www.flickr.com and register. After registering go to ‘upload pictures’ and upload your pictures.

Organizing your pictures

After uploading click on organize, then click on add to set.

Give your set a name, and drag the pictures you want in your set on to the window.

Registering

Follow the link of your semester, and register. You should get an Email with the login details. After logging you can change the password & info in the settings page.

Posting

Click on Write and you’ll get the interface for writing a new post. The title should be the title of your project.

The description of your project in one line should be in Italics wich can be done with the i button .

Adding a Picture

Click on the add image button, which will bring up a   popup interface. Go to your flickr account and to the image you want to add to the post. Then click on all sizes.

This will give you a few sizes of your picture and the direct link to the picture. Which is link nr 2.

In Source use the direct link, and Image Title a title you want to give the picture.

The best way  to work is to link in source to a smaller instance of your picture, and in link url to the biggest version of your picture.  In allignment options you can choose if you want to have your image on the left, center or right. (Which only works if your picture size is smaller then 450px).

Click on Insert into Post, click on the picture and then on the image tab. this will bring you to the advanced options. the picture should never have a greather widht then 450px. Otherwise it will scale the picture wrong. So in Size options besure the picture has a lower width. Now go to Target and click the option and  update.
