Beamlab – 2 December

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Beamlab is a night about the moving image; for meeting, exchanging and getting inspiration. It is held in Pakhuis de Zwijger [AMS] on wednesday nights (20:00-00:00) every two months.
The best thing about it is that it’s very inspiring, new and it’s FREE.

Participants are video-artists, vj’s, filmmakers, gamedesigners, advertising people on one side and manufacturers, developers, customers and technicians of audiovisual products on the other side.

Speakers in the past include; Bart & Edwin (developers of Resolume VJ software), Sil van der Woerd (film director), TU Delft (with a LiDAR laser), P!pslab (audiovisual theatre), Eboman (audiovisual artist), ONESIZE (motiongraphics studio Delft), Matthias Oosterik (creator of the Bijlmer Moodwall), Achtung (advertising firm), Blendid (interaction designers) and many many more.

The next event is at wednesday 2 December. Read more about it @ www.beamlab.nl

Lunch lecture about Digital Copyright at EWI

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

There was some interest before, so I’ll remind you all that there’s a lunch lecture on the History and Future of Digital Copyright at EWI. It will be given by Arnoud Engelfriet, a rather prominent lawyer specializing on internet law.
The entrance fee is 1 euro and includes a modest lunch. More information on http://ch.tudelft.nl/index.php?page=agenda&id=763

It’s a 2 minute walk, a great talk and a cheap lunch, too good to miss ;)

finetuning concepts

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

The 29th of September we joined in the morning a very inspirering lecture about how to deal with different aspects like temperature and light in a space. After the lecture we worked on our prototypes. There were some tuff discusions about how we need to go on with the general lounge. How can we make it interact clear and with what does it interact? How can we apply the main concept of open – close and do we need to place our lamp/chair designs in it? With those questions we had different arguments and doubts. How can we adjust the construction to the concept? The construction contains all different triangles which are able to stretch the length of the arms. Why do we want the triangles to do that? The reason for that is that we want to adjust the lounge to the people. We want that the people are able to have the feeling that they are in a different environment when they use the lounge. This is what we call the Central Park effect. With the changing triangles we can create different surfaces and with that a different environment. What the surfaces will become is still a discussion. We can make them out of lamps. But what if it is used during the day? How much effect will the lamps have then? Because of that we also thought of changing the surface into a different colour when the shape changes. We even thought of a way to show images which change while the shape of the triangle changes. With this we can even make an analoge moving image. The main shape and concept of what the lounge will be isn ‘t certain jet. But with today a lot became more clear.

Today’s Art Festival 2009 ~ The Hague

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Saturday September 26. The second, and last, day of The Hague’s Today’s Art Festival 2009. We bought tickets, made deals about meeting each other, and got our hopes up. After all, the website looked kinda fancy and tickets were not extremely cheap (okay, they weren’t extremely expensive either..) Looking back on it we might have been able to notice the festival not being so professional as it looked at first sights. The timetible published less than a week before the event and no answer to an email several weeks before the festival (wether the festival was during the day or in the evening), not even an ‘thank you, we received your message’ reply.

Wordpress Quicktips Episode 1

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

I noticed during the ‘group therapy’ sessions tuesday morning that some of the pictures in the blog posts were too small to get any information from besides that the group has accomplished *something*, whatever that may be.

Now I know I can read everything that accompanies the pictures and get the basic idea, but hey, I’m all for visuals. (more…)
