Big news! It’s been in the air for a while, but very official since yesterday! StuD studentenuitzendbureau is official sponsor of Odyssey!
Thanks to StuD we have been able to build the lounge as will be presented on Friday.
And there is much more… (more…)
Hi Chico’s and Chica’s!
What a hectic week last week! Working 13 hours a day on the blob and column with only a lunch and dinner break of 30 minutes each. And the best part is, we have another (similar) week to go!!
Coming Friday is the final presentation and the opening of the exibition, the stone hard deadline! That’s why we’ve been working so hard last days and weeks. Since the structure is finished Govert and Tomas joined me in the quest of sewing while Melissa is working on the light system.
Hi Guys,
Just a little update about the interior of the lounge since I haven’t got a lot to tell. This week I’ve been working on the seating elements that are going to be placed around the walls of the lounge. Making these seating elements, that are going to be filled with foam, took way more time than expected. This was mainly due to the difficult shape and very hard sewing construction. After spending 3 out of 5 evenings at Mijnbouwstraat the thing was almost finished this friday at 18.00 hrs. Only a small thing to do on monday morning, hang it, stuff it and then continue as fast as lightning on the column and rest of the interior.
Luckily we will have another/extra sewing machine from monday on, so we can work twice as fast.
I really hope the rest of the sewing work will be a bit less complex or at least faster, otherwise I’ll be running away screaming by the end of next week.
For so long, see you on monday and enjoy the weekend!
After a few too much weeks of radio silence, it became about time for a status update! The structure is now finished and I’m currently very busy trying to make the pistons work properly. This means a lot of electronics tweaking the prevent any more H-bridges from frying.. Anyway, at this point already I would like to say thanks a bunch to Rob Luxen , who has been extremely helpful in solving these issues!
Furthermore, Govert and Thomas did some good work on filling in the lower triangles to prevent ani pillows from coming through when someone would sit down there. The slender, minimal rope construction actually looks quite nice! (Pictures pending.) After this, my subgroup will probably focus more on helping out the other teams to get everything done. Let’s hope we make it in time…
A few pictures of the endresult of a day’s hard work.
Almost all of the pallets are customized and ready for the electronics.
On the top layer now are lines indicating positions of the sensors, the servo’s and the seating area’s. So now we know what we need.
Hi Guys!
Snow is falling and tomorrow is Christmas. Just before the fun starts I’ll write you a little update on the Column and Blob of the last 2 weeks of this year.
So finally the cloth arrived and we could start on the sewing. Taking up a day and 3 more days cutting foam the blob is now officially almost finished! We even tested it (while we still have some foam-cutting days ahead of us) and it feels amazing! Way better than a fatboy anyway..
As our Parallel Universe is slowly getting shape, the floor is also steadily progressing. Currently, we have three Odyssey members working full time on this part of the lounge: while Merijn and me (Jesse) are finishing the supporting layer of the floor, Bob has been working on different kinds of sensors and getting the much needed final materials to finish the floor: we expect to have all the materials ordered before the end of this week.
Here is a short summery of our last weeks with a lot of photo’s!

More sewing, Lieke is making the blob
