Blob and Column -> Almost getting there..

January 24th, 2010 by Lieke Kraan

Hi Chico’s and Chica’s!

What a hectic week last week! Working 13 hours a day on the blob and column with only a lunch and dinner break of 30 minutes each. And the best part is, we have another (similar) week to go!!

Coming Friday is the final presentation and the opening of the exibition, the stone hard deadline! That’s why we’ve been working so hard last days and weeks. Since the structure is finished Govert and Tomas joined me in the quest of sewing while Melissa is working on the light system.

skin + seating + photo update

January 9th, 2010 by Fons van den Berg

After the vacation we’ve set ourselfs a goal. The goal was to finish the half of the roof for the skin. Then we stopped with the construction and we made some more skin panels and we started with the seating elements.
These seatings are important because there is no lounge without seating.
We got wood from Civil Engineering (wood used for tests) and with this wood we’ve build two construction for the seat. These constructions are attached to the skin and they will be filled with bags of sand and some foam. All of these will be covered with a layer of fake leather.
It is a lot of work to build a construction for the seating but it is important to get it right and to have some seatings. One of these days Cees-Willem also helped.

This week we also tried some things for the connection points. We came to a conclusion that the lights will only be in the connection points just like the ledworks because the skin panels are not really suited for light. Or to say it differently the result of light in the skin panels was not overwelming and it had not such a good effect.

Blob and Column update & some group pictures

December 24th, 2009 by Lieke Kraan

Hi Guys!

Snow is falling and tomorrow is Christmas. Just before the fun starts I’ll write you a little update on the Column and Blob of the last 2 weeks of this year.

So finally the cloth arrived and we could start on the sewing. Taking up a day and 3 more days cutting foam the blob is now officially almost finished! We even tested it (while we still have some foam-cutting days ahead of us) and it feels amazing! Way better than a fatboy anyway..
